Joining Autodesk Beta Programs is an excellent opportunity to become involved in the process of creating computer software used worldwide. The mission of Autodesk Beta Programs is to help ensure the release of quality products by testing them in a 'real-world' environment as well as the lab. Involving customers in the software validation process helps to ensure we're meeting the demands of the user community. Beta sites provide pivotal feedback at many stages in the development cycle.

Beta sites are selected from a pool of available candidates on the basis of background information obtained during the enrollment and subsequent screening processes. These processes may take up to several months depending upon your area of testing interest and the schedule requirements of specific projects. This invitation to enroll does not guarantee a spot on a specific project but by collecting the information below we can take the next step towards adding you to the candidate pool.

Beta sites are provided with prerelease copies of software and draft documentation for evaluation. Beta sites are responsible for active participation throughout the beta cycle. Participation expectations vary from project to project but typically include the submission of bug reports when defects are discovered, response to weekly (on average) surveys, and submittal of enhancement suggestions and other data. Project duration also varies from project to project. Some beta projects have lasted nearly a year while others only a few weeks. Throughout the duration of a project beta sites must remain highly motivated, and be willing to work independently with limited resources and support.

Before participation in any project can begin candidate sites must agree to a Beta Site License Agreement, which provides a license to use pre-release software for test purposes and also includes non-disclosure terms. Participation in Autodesk Beta Programs is confidential, as is all information that passes between Autodesk and beta sites. The agreement binds Autodesk to the same level of confidentiality as beta sites to protect proprietary data that may need to be submitted in connection with problem reports.

Successful sites are motivated by the opportunity to have an impact on the tools that they use every day. Beta participation can also provide opportunities to plan future deployment strategies and get an advance look at what's on the product development horizon. In some cases sites are offered products or merchandise as an incentive or reward for outstanding contributions.
